MD Report Card Data 2026

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) today released state, school system and school-level results for the 2026 Maryland School Report Card. The report card includes data from the 2025-2026 school year about school accountability measures including academic growth, student performance, school quality and climate, and student attendance.

Data released for Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) shows improvement for the school system, with 10 schools earning four stars, 27 schools earning three stars and two schools receiving two stars. Since MSDE released its star rating system, no CCPS school has earned a one-star rating.

Six schools moved up one star rating from last year, with 30 maintaining the same star rating from the 2025 Maryland School Report Card. For this reporting cycle, CCPS had two schools drop in ratings, in contrast to the drop of four schools last year. A breakdown of star ratings across Maryland and school systems is posted on the MSDE Report Card website.

The Report Card includes a star rating for schools featuring a scale of one star to five stars. Elementary and middle school indicators include academic achievement, academic progress, progress in achieving English language proficiency, and school quality and student success.

High school indicators include academic achievement, graduation rate, progress in achieving English language proficiency, readiness for postsecondary success, and school quality and student success.

Since 2021, the number of CCPS schools maintaining its star rating rose from 17 to 30, while the number of schools with ratings that dropped a level decreased from 14 schools in 2021 to just two in 2026. The gain rate has remained consistent among CCPS schools, with five schools jumping up a star rating in 2021 to six schools moving up a star rating level this year.

MSDE reports that nearly 89% of public schools earned one of the top three star ratings, according to data reported from the 2025-2026 school year.

Maryland is currently redesigning the accountability system. The Maryland Assessment and Accountability Advisory Committee, which brings together local and state education leadership, offers guidance on accountability measures to increase transparency and emphasize student growth in evaluating school performance. Superintendent of Schools Maria V. Navarro, Ed.D., is a member of the committee and looks forward to the implementation of a new assessment system that better measures student growth.

“We have several assessment measures in place to look at student growth and areas of improvement. School administrators and teachers continue to view this data and use it to model instructional strategies to target the needs of every student. I am proud of the gains our students make each day,” Navarro said.

Individual school rating reports are linked to all CCPS school websites under the School Performance Report area located under About in the main menu. Information about how to read a performance report is posted on the MSDE website at https://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/.
